Finis SwiMP3 V2 Underwater MP3 Player-New Design Just out for 2007 with Goggles
The SwiMP3 V2 Underwater MP3 Player is an incredible audio experience. Imagine listening to hours of your own music during your swim workout. The SwiMP3's innovative sound transfer technology offers exception underwater sound quality. Standard players rely on the transmission of sound through air or water causing the swimmer to perceive only muffled noise. The SwiMP3 uses bone conduction - the direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear - to provide the swimmer with exceptional sound clarity. The SwiMP3 is fully Waterproof and can be used with all the competitive swim strokes. : How Does It Work? :The new SwiMP3 is revolutionary in that it relies on bone conduction of sound. When the device is placed on any bones of the skull (i.e. the cheek bones or the mastoid tip) it leads to vibration of the fluid in the inner ear. Thus swimmers can enjoy clarity of sound with the SwiMP3 device that was never before possible. Bone conduction hearing is a safe, well-established hearing mechanism in humans that the SwiMP3 player leverages to enhance aquatic activity. Finis's application of the technology brings an entirely new level of experience to swimmers, either while working out or taking a leisurely swim. : ::Safe and Proven Technology :Bone conduction hearing is essentially an ancient sensory capability that the new SwiMP3 leverages to enhance the experience of swimmers, triathletes, surfers, synchronized swimmers and anyone involved in general water activities. It is a safe, proven technology that the SwiMP3 offers to the wide audience of aquatic athletes. ::Additional Info: :PC and Mac Compatible :256 MB :Rechargable Battery :Supported Formats: MP3 & WMA :Weighs Only 2 Ounces.

7) A Wonderful Meditation
My husband gave me the previous model as a Christmas gift four years ago and it was the best gift ever! I love to load my favorite NPR programs, or poetry, or meditations. I've even used a book on tape (a few chapters at a time)! I have had no difficulty with the battery and it makes the swim time go quickly while at the same time encouraging me to swim for longer intervals --- sometimes in order to finish what I am listening to! My only problem is with replacing the goggles which have been scratched up after all this time --- new ones seem difficult to thread into the player. But I love it and wouldn't be without it.

6) Battery Life Short
I have owned both models, the one that fit on the back of your head, and the current model. They both suffered from the same problem and that is these units can only be charged so many times before the battery goes dead. Unfortunately, there is no disclaimer of this point on the packaging. The unit is great when it works, but no so great when it "gives up the ghost" after so many charges. At $180 a pop, the unit becomes an expensive toy based on the problem mentioned above.

5) Had one for over 1 year - It is Awesome!!
I swim a couple days a week and could not imagine doing so without listening to the music. Before the swimP3 the workout would be over quickly. With it the workout just fly's by. The sound is great - I use it with a center mount snorkel and do not have to use ear plugs.

4) I love this
I read numerous reviews before purchasing this item. The reviews were mixed but I am quite pleased. Some commented that there is insufficient volume such that you need to wear earplugs. I have not found that to be the case but maybe that is just because where and when I swim it is less noisy. It would be nice if I could load more songs and, although I find the sound quality to be quite good, there is room for improvement. I would say that the sound quality is roughly that of a good AM radio except this is in stereo. I swim everyday and this certainly helps to relieve the boredom. The only drawbacks I can think of are that you look kind of like a dork (but I have a number of dork like qualities anyway), the music can distract you from such things as counting laps, and I am now dependent. When my battery ran out of juice half way through my morning's swim this morning, I really missed the music. Oh, and I also bought a number of albums just for swimming including the soundtrack to Das Boot (did I mention that I have several dork like qualities?) and a number of Yoyo Ma pieces.

I should mention that it is as easy as pie to load songs onto this player. You just drag and drop. I guess there is a manager that can help you but I would rather do it myself anyway.

3) Better than Expected
I purchased a SwiMP3 V2 a little while ago hoping that it would be at least acceptable for entertaining me during my hour to two hour swim every day. I have since been pleasantly surprised by how well it works. It easily holds more songs than I can listen to in a swim session (I'm no Olympic swimmer...) and it is fairly simple to set up and use. I downloaded the Media Manager from their site which works well for dragging and dropping songs but could have used Windows Explorer instead for simplicity. When you create more tracks you have to rescan the library in the Media Manager in order for them to show up. Also right click on the SwiMP3 icon on the left drive list and select "safely remove device" before you disconnect the USB connector.
The controls are straight forward and simple to use even when strapped to your melon.
It is a bit of an "apparatus" when you put your goggles on but with a little practice goes fairly well. I had a little goggle leakage at first so I tightened the strap and that cleared that up but then the strap seemed a little too tight.
I began by using the devices resting on my cheek bones as instructed and when in the water the sound was strong but when out of the water the volume dropped off significantly.
Eventually I discovered something interesting. I use silicone ear plugs - the kind you roll into a ball and then press into the ear - and when I placed the bone conductor units straight over my ears - resting on the ear plugs - after the initial immersion the volume no longer dropped as I raised my head out of the water. With the units slid back over my ears I was able to drop the strap tension back down to normal with no leakage.
So now I can even stop (wheezing and gasping) at the end of the lane and sit a long moment relaxing and the music keeps playing at my chosen volume. I have the thing turned down pretty far - it is capable of really blasting. So now even when doing the breast stroke there is no change in volume. Excellent!
Not a lot of bass but the sound is good otherwise.
If I push hard off the side occasionally I will have to realign one of the sound units but generally I just focus on the swimming and any hottie in the lane next to me.
It is more difficult to keep track of lap counts while jamming and I'm not sure of the fashion statement here. Maybe I could paint it flesh toned or something....
This thing works much better than I expected and really makes the swim more enjoyable.
Tis a bit pricey but if swimming is what you love then maybe it will be worth it to you.
It is to me. Five big wet stupid grins for the SwiMP3 V2 player. Buy it swimdog.
